Conflict Reduction
Our objective is to significantly reduce human-elephant conflicts by implementing practical, non-lethal methods. This includes deploying early warning systems, beehive fences, and natural repellents, which will help prevent elephants from entering agricultural areas and causing damage, thereby minimizing tensions and improving safety for local communities.
Community Empowerment
We aim to empower local communities with essential tools and knowledge to effectively manage and prevent conflicts with elephants. Through training and educational programs, we will provide residents with practical skills and resources, enabling them to proactively address issues and promote peaceful coexistence between humans and wildlife.
Wildlife Protection
Our goal is to enhance the conservation of elephants by reducing retaliatory actions that arise from human-elephant conflicts. By mitigating the negative interactions and fostering positive relationships, we support the protection of elephants, helping to ensure their survival and preserve their role in the ecosystem.
Identification
We will target regions in Tanzania where human-elephant interactions are particularly frequent and damaging. These high-conflict areas are characterized by regular instances of elephants encroaching on agricultural lands or settlements, leading to significant economic and safety concerns for local communities.
Criteria
Selection of target areas will be based on a combination of factors, including the frequency of human-elephant conflicts, the extent of damage to crops and property, and the overall impact on local communities. Additionally, conservation needs will be considered to ensure that efforts are focused on areas where they can make the most significant positive impact on both community safety and wildlife preservation.
